Spice Kitchen is hosting the Nyonya Food Festival along with their regular dinner buffet. Though primarily a Malaysian cuisine but not as spicy, it draws influences from the neighboring Chinese cuisine as well. Crossover of ingredients include coconut milk, lemon grass, turmeric, chillies and sambal. While a typical Malay spread consists of curries, Nyonya also use the wok and grill predominantly. The palate is acidic on most preparations and go well paired with a white wine.
We particularly liked Otak Otak (pan-grilled fish wrapped in banana leaf) from the starters – huge fan of contrasting textures. From the main course, Ayam Goreng (crisp fried chicken) and Lamb Chili Garlic in Hot Basil Sauce were a favourite. Don’t miss their version of the golas – Ais Kacang, shaved ice topped with nuts, dried fruits, and syrups.
