ccb Review: Cafe Coffee Break

Location Model colony, Pune
Type Cafe
Prices Mostly Affordable
Pros Location, Bakery items, Very affordable barring beverages
Cons Coffee is overpriced, Tea is just plain bad

The new Cafe Coffee Break at Model Colony, Pune has opened only over a week ago. It has bakery items made by Sugar Dough. Those living in or near model colony might remember a cake shop in front of ‘More’ supermarket by the same name. And those who have had a cake there would be rather pleased that they can again have a Sugar Dough cake.

The location of the cafe is ideal with institutes like SICSR, SIFIL/ELTIS, SCMLD, Finishing School at close proximity. Also, it is right beside Spencer’s supermarket so finding it is not a problem. It is a small cafe and caters more to the people looking for a takeaway as opposed to sitting and eating. There is a very limited sitting space albeit a comfortable one.

The ambience is very soothing with shaded and hanging lights, and earthy colour tones. The display for cakes and bakes is very prominent and tempting. The bakery items are as tasty as they appear. However, there is a bit of problem with the nomenclature of the pastries. The pastry marked “Dutch Truffle” actually turned out to be only “Chocolate Truffle” the last time I visited.

The menu is quite impressive. You get many varieties of cold-shakes, cold coffees, coffees and sandwiches. The varieties of coffees available is rather surprising, considering the fact Sweet Chariot, F.C. Road has only 3 or 4. However, the cappuccino you get for Rs 25 does not leave you too satisfied. I’d not like to pay more than Rs 15 for it. The tea is “drink if you dare”. It is just too watery for a white tea. Interestingly, you get the hot beverages in a disposable cup that has very interesting foldable paper handle.

At present a promotional offer is going on wherein you get a loyalty card which is stamped at every visit. Once you have five stamps, you get Rs 50 off on your next visit. Do visit this little cafe for the lip smacking cakes, pastries and puddings you get at cheap prices. Even the sandwiches are good and very filling. However, if you want a coffee – don’t expect anything fantastic, it is only average. And, don’t even think of drinking tea here.

TTS Rating: 3/5

Verdict: If you got a sweet tooth, head to this cafe, coffee connoisseur be wary and tea enthusiasts stay away.
