The Indian youth are always abreast of the latest trends in fashion. Being trendy is not just a style statement anymore; it is a way of living. No wonder big names such as Gucci, UCB are laughing their way to the Indian banks. However, one doesn’t have to be a rich and spoilt child of a finance pundit to fashionable, all it takes is the eye and the knowledge.
So what’s hot this season? It is our old and much hated (or loved, depending on which side of the tracks you belong) chappals. Alright, it is not the Hawaii chappals that you love to loiter around with, it is the flip-flops that I’m talking about. So what’s so stylish about ‘em? The answer is contrasting colors on each feet. So you can have a pink on the left and a blue on right; the color combinations depend entirely upon your imagination.
When paired with capris, they really do make you, the young ladies, look chic, smart and trendy. Besides, it is a neat technique to make guys look at your feet rather than stare at “something else”. There will, obviously, be those who find this trend to be weird, but Hey! you still are making a statement in terms of flamboyancy!
“Form follows function” is not a statement one would attach with fashion, but the times sure are changing. With the trend of wearing contrasting chappals being the rage, one can pass off the blunder of wearing mismatch chappals due to being in a hurry of reaching college, as a style statement. Also, apart from serving as a convenient excuse, this trend is also quite pocket-friendly. The chappals are available in pink-white, pink-blue, black-white etc. Also, the creative kinds can just buy a couple of pairs of chappals of different colours and wear them on one colour one foot basis. The good news is that this fashion fever is gripping the city and many of the footwear outlets are stocking these chappals. So, go ahead and make a statement by buying a pair yourself!

its a decent article…but can we have sumthin dat we dont kinda know?
and i’ve forgotten when i bought the last pair…college has put a dress code now…
One shudders to think what would happen if everyone started using mismatches and had to leave their chappals outside- say at a temple etc.??????
a better idea is to wear your own pair, and outside the temple flick somebody’s else which goes with ur attire the most..leaving behind one of urs..and so u can have **chappals**, of the latest trend!!
Strange trend..I need to really figure out who all are trying these trendy chappals..But I am definately goin to try them not at home but outside temples
@Shubhra. So now we know who starts such trends- adventurers like Shubhra:-)
Do let us all know how you njoy the experience
i remember back in school, my friend’s boyfriend got her a pair while returning from the US.
one of them read MAKE and the other read LOVE.
all i can say is that they were the MOST WANTED pair of flip-flops in the whole hostel
Nice article.
But am quite unaware of this trend!!!
I, for one, wouldn’t mind it at all as I used to wear mismatch pair of slippers long back !!!
Keep it up Rajiv !
@saiyona. In fact, MOST and WANTED is also not such a bad combination
I don’t know how u girls walk around wearing chappals. I once had the misfortune of wearing a pair (Gents chappal obviously!) and the walk was an agony – my feet need support at the back.
@ashwin misfortune? some one needs a check up it seems…in chappals ur so much more free…
well………..chappals r supposed to be light weight and really comfortable ……but wearing 2 different slippers is wierd ………..and is this trend only for girls???///////
@jain looks like you hardly come out of the house…go visit a converse or puma store…you’ll find them and they’re unisex
Good article, your adjective knowledge is amazing, I must say ;P
